I've been vaping for about 12 years instead of smoking. https://www.nhs.uk/better-health/quit-smoking/vaping-to-quit-smoking/

I could never with good conscience suggests vaping. Those chemicals go into the blood stream and it's still an addiction to nicotine. I do understand that it is less smoke on the lungs, which is good. the point is to get off nicotine. I'm sure in time vaping will have a class action suit against their use.

Vaping nicotine is at least 95% safer than smoking and it works great! There is no smoke and e-cigs contain no tobacco! Smoking supposedly kills 7 to 9 million each year. It is very hard to quit. Nicotine is not the harmful part of smoking and is very enjoyable! https://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/projects/outputs/nicotine-without-smoke-tobacco-harm-reduction

I am a former smoker. I got pregnant and then quit. I completely realize how hard it is to smoke! I miss it. :). Not kidding. Its as addictive as heroine, so it basically puts a strangle-hold on your nervous system (and more). But again, the idea is to not be addicted. It MAY be safer, but not necessarily 'better'. Plus there are many types of vaping products that are destructive to lung tissue. Either way, getting off nicotine with all its additives and carcinogens (in conventional products) is paramount. Vaping is another issue, and not one I would suggest.

There may not be any studies, but we don't wait around for studies to catch up. Herein lies the issue with the system. And even then, the science is typically corrupted. Who will do the studies of vaping?? The US system consistently follows the approach of do it now, pay for it later and if there is no science it must be safe. CDC science.

All the tools are needed to quit smoking and vaping works better than any other method! Think of it as flavored steam that satisfies many of the habits of smoking!

I understand what it is, but there are many products out there that have other additives in them, it's not just steam. Inhaling flavoring? Like that's good? You wont convince me this is better than no nicotine/no vaping and it is literally still an addiction switching out one bad habit with another. I am not sure what you don't understand about that. Vaping may be 'better' on the lungs, but we also know vaping is associated with 'popcorn lung' and while SOME studies are done, it is in the context of a comparator: smoking or vaping and after these products have hit the market. Same ole same ole.

You should read the UK findings again......

2.1 Overall conclusions

Based on the evidence that the team reviewed, the conclusions were that:

*in the short and medium term, vaping poses a small fraction of the risks of smoking

*vaping is not risk-free, particularly for people who have never smoked

evidence is mostly limited to short and medium term effects and studies assessing longer term vaping (for more than 12 months) are necessary

more standardised and consistent methodologies in future studies would improve interpretation of the evidence

It sounds to me like you don't want to kick the habit of nicotine and making excuses. The post is about getting off nicotine. Maybe try some of these interventions I have laid out. Good luck to you.

82 million of us enjoy it and you can't find any harms from this so called addiction. Popcorn lung has been debunked 100 times. It is called scientism like you wrote about on twitter. We call it a dependence and we like it. Most of us thought we would smoke till we died. Then vaping became popular around 2010 and millions of our lives have been saved.

The studies have been done by Public Health England since 2015 and is updated most years. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/nicotine-vaping-in-england-2022-evidence-update

The Royal College of Physicians have recommended nicotine vaping to ALL Smokers since April 2016!

From the Royal College of Physicians link in my first comment.

"Although it is not possible to estimate the long-term health risks associated with e-cigarettes precisely, the available data suggest that they are unlikely to exceed 5% of those associated with smoked tobacco products, and may well be substantially lower than this figure."

You must compare any harms from vaping nicotine to that of smoking!

I enjoy nicotine but hate “needing it”. Does anyone know how often you can vape without developing a dependence? I can’t find that anywhere.

Vaping is still addictive since it contains nicotine. You may as well do the patch of you want to use nicotine to wean. You could also take on some of the interventions I have laid out in this post while you are weaning. Good luck!

It will vary for everyone and I don't know of any studies about that. Our organization has lots of info on nicotine and some on dependence. This site is run by consumers for consumers :)
